Alaska String Camps offers three different sessions tailored to a specific age group, ensuring an appropriate blend of fun and learning. In addition to orchestra, campers receive music instruction in small groups. Each camp culminates with a family concert on the final evening. Providing Unique Orchestral Experiences for Violin, Viola,
Meals focus on nutritious foods that young people enjoy. Breakfast, lunch and dinner plus an afternoon and evening snack are shared daily.
Elementary- July 10-12, 2017
Session I is for students who have completed grades four, five or six with at least one school year of playing experience and/or private lessons on their string instrument. For three days and two nights students enjoy orchestra rehearsals, fiddling, music theory, and small group lessons with a professional violin, viola, cello or bass specialist.
Intermediate - July 13-16, 2017
Session II is for students who have completed grades seven or eight with at least one school year of playing experience and/or private lessons on their string instrument. Students enjoy four days and three nights of orchestra rehearsals, chamber ensembles, music theory, improvisation, and small group lessons with a professional violin, viola, cello or bass specialist.
High School - July 18-22, 2017
Session III is open to students who have have played for at least two years and have completed at least one year of high school. In addition to twice daily orchestra rehearsals, campers choose from a variety of elective courses. Previously offered electives have included music in movies, fiddling, composition, ballroom dancing, music of different cultures, theory, chamber ensembles, electronic music, and individual lessons with a professional violin, viola, cello or bass specialist. The camp is five days and four nights.
